Sodium dodecyl sulfate - Wikipedia

SDS is in the family of organosulfate compounds, and has the formula, CH3(CH2)11SO4Na. It consists of a 12-carbon tail attached to a sulfate group, that is, it is the sodium salt of a 12-carbon alcohol that has been esterified to sulfuric acid. An alternative description is that it is an alkyl group with a pendant, terminal sulfate group attached. As a result of its hydrocarbon tail, and its anionic "head group", it has amphiphilic properties that allow it to form micelles, and so act as a detergent. The critical micelle concentration of sodium dodecyl,,Critical micelle concentrations (CMC) were determined at 30°C for aqueous sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)-bivalent metal dodecyl sulfate [M (DS) 2] mixtures over the entire surfactant composition range. Bivalent metals used were Mg 2+, Mn 2+, Co 2+, Ni 2+, and Cu 2+.Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate - an overview | ScienceDirect Topics,SDS is usually prepared as either a 10% or a 20% (w/v) stock solution and is used most often at a working concentration of 0.1% to 0.5%. The performance of this detergent can be affected significantly by its purity.Sodium dodecyl sulfate | C12H25NaO4S - PubChem,Sodium dodecyl sulfate | C12H25NaO4S - PubChem. 27-08-2003· pH changes as a function of concentration for sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB) were observed by the addition of 1 N HCl and 1 N KOH. pH values increased up to the critical micellar concentration (CMC) for the SDS/HCl system and decreased for the DTAB/KOH system. In the SDS/HCl and DTAB/KOH systems,Rapid Determination of Surfactant Critical Micelle,,20-11-2009· Upon comparison with the range of previously reported CMC values [16,17] for sodium caprylate, these results were found to be in excellent agreement.
